Working with 10's, 100's, 1,000's, and so on are really special in maths. We recognize these relationships as POWERS of TENS! When dividing and multiplying by 10s we have noticed through the place value chart that the number shifts on the chart accordingly.
Multiplying the number by powers of tens shifts towards the left as it increases in size.
Dividing the number by powers of tens shifts it towards the right as it decreases in size.

We need to visualise what is happening here. There are 100cm in a meter. Therefore when we convert meters into centimeters our answer should be a larger number.
9.2m = ?cm
I see that the relationship between meters and centimeters as 10X10= 100times
100cm=1meter. I can reason that 9.2m is about 9 whole meters which will be around 900 centimeters.

checking that with my smart estimate of around 900cm I can be sure that my answer makes sense.
